It was not only the official opening and Speech from the Throne on Parliament Hill. Last week also saw the official visit by Canada’s Accessibility Machine, Warren’s World.
The backdrop of the Warren’s World arrival in Ottawa was the Westminster ceremonial flare that characterizes the inauguration of a new government in Canada. The cannons fired the traditional salute to Her Majesty as the bells of the Peace Tower rang-in a new session for Canada’s Parliament. The Members of the two Houses of Parliament were escorted through the centuries-old pomp and circumstance by official limousines, RCMP and Royal Guardsmen.
The political buzz for MPs, Senators, staffers and the nation focused on what would emerge in the closely guarded governing agenda of the recently elected Conservative government.
But the focus for millions of Canadians with disabilities was on Parliament’s Ultimate Celebration of Accessibility, a ceremonial event hosted by Toronto’s Senator David Smith that honoured the work of Canada’s March of Dimes – notably, the initiatives of Warren’s World.
